Peng Cheng, although she is only 36 years old, can be considered to be the pioneer of French pastry in China. She opened China’s first French pastry shop in 2011 and, at the same time founded La Belle Vie Pastry School in Changsha, Hunan Province (South-Central China), which has trained an estimated 4,000 pastry chefs, many of whom have gone on to become renowned professionals throughout the country and beyond. Peng Cheng began her career by studying at the prestigious École Ferrandi in 2007, where she obtained her diploma and apprenticed with several great chefs, including Pierre Hermé (named World’s Best Pastry Chef in 2016 by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants magazine). In France, she also worked at the Michelin-starred Auberge des Templiers in Boismorand (Center of France). She returned home in 2011 to open her shop and school. Since then, La Belle Vie has become more than a training facility, but has grown to become the crossroads for the world’s greatest pastry chefs and would-be chefs in China, with Masterclasses, exhibits by pastry makers and suppliers of raw materials and, since 2017, an annual Francophone World Pastry Chef Contest that attracts people from all over the world.

 

She is an Ambassador not only for Les vergers Boiron but also for Cacao Barry, for whom she has created her own line of chocolates, Peng Cheng’s Favorites. She is a Jury Member of the World Chocolate Masters in China and has been designated as a leading force in promoting French culture in China by the French Consul in Hunan Province. Now, Peng Cheng is cooperating with a chain supermarket company owned by group Alibaba, opening bakery areas inside the supermarkets, their ambition is to transform all these bakery areas into a unique brand, which will enable consumers all over China to get a taste of high-quality bakery products.
