Yellow pepper

Yellow pepper

Pepper comes from the peppercorn. When Christopher Columbus discovered the small red berries of a variety of chilli, he thought it was red peppercorn and that the crew had at last reached the Indies. Of course, he was misled, but the word pepper remained. "Poivron" the French equivalent appeared in the French language in 1785: it designates the sweet flavored fruit.
